Why Irish Dexters?
Irish Dexters are a dual purpose breed of cattle that originated in Ireland. They grow to be between 36"-40" at the shoulder. With their smaller size you can have more cows on less land.
What does "dual purpose" mean? Well, it means that they can be used for milk and for beef. Now due to their size, they will not produce the same amount of milk as a Holstein; however, their milk is comparable to that of a Jersey. It is very rich and creamy.

When they are used for beef, they do not produce as much meat as a Hereford or an Angus; interestingly enough, their meat actually beat out Angus in a taste test of over 50 beef breeds! Their meat is tender and marbles perfectly.
